West Bengal?? Think over it

Name the state in INDIA with higgest educated unemployed?

West Bengal is the answer.

since the communist takeover in the 1970s, the state has turned its own fate. Once touted to be the NewYork of India, Calcutta , ohhhhh so sorry Kolkata has lost its shine to other newcommers like Bangalore, Pune, Hyd and few more. Once the center for modern education, science, industry, culture and politics in India, has witnessed several political voilence, clashes and economic stagnation.

Recent news on Tata planning to pull out of Singur has yet agained rasied questions marks in the corporate world about investment plans in West Bengal. Just before this, Ambani had also pulled out of West Bengal (His retail venture) due to political forces playing spoilsport.

Well I would love to describe all the events, history and reasons for the decline of West Bengal, but I have several submissions and exams coming up. Still I will make a statement.

"West Bengal has taken the worst of Communism and the worst of capitalism in the world"

Think about the statement i have made. I have made this statement after discussing this issue with a professor coming from West Bengal.

dude i agree.. west bengal has been jacked because of the politicos and the worst of commies and the worst of capitalistic philosophies. however, dude think abt this. the left (which is synonymous with west bengal, as the core leadership has its roots there) has the best minds in India.. why do u think all bloody brilliant people flock to the left way of thinking??

hi atomicchurner!!

i agree, west bengal has best minds in india...they knw everything abt economics n development of nation..

there r several reasons behind thm goin the left way...different reasons also...u will have to go back to 1970s for this...due to the bangladesh war, several thousands of bangladeshis entered west bengal for shelter and also impact of indra gandhi, emergence imposed, Jai Prakash movement (JP movement) contributed to rise of communism in west bengal...at tht time west bengal was facing severe power crisis, poverty n social tensions...

the intellectuals n learned men n women had to choose a way out...either join the communists n try to bring change to the state which was in deep trouble or to oppose thm n try to go the capitalist ways like before (i.e during congress govt rule in west bengal till 1970s).....

they decided to support the communist ways...they thought they will take the best of it n change the fortunes of the state...gradually politics, power, money, voilent means of communist parties n personal benefits has ensured tht they take the worst of both communism n capitalism......

what u feel???
n by the way do u mind introducing urself???

hi im sarvesh mbatech 5th year..
i guess you missed my point.. the thing is that the left always attracts the best minds.. and as history has shown, these best minds end up opposing development activities when all theories of economics state that creation of wealth is the only way to move out of a situation such as in WB.. ppl no matter how brilliant will flock to whatever solution that seemingly will solve their problem. those ppl saw left and commie agenda as the way out.. okay agreed.. but why is it that the best minds continue to flock to the left?? and then they do the most illogical things such aas opposing development. do u think its the communist core philosophy which is at fault here??

i personally think so. wht abt u??

hi sarvesh..i agree with most of what ur post says....before discussing on this further, i want to introduce a behavorial angle....

If you look at all the intellectual(true intellectual) ppl, u will observe one thing --- they r above worldly desires of materialistic things..on the other hand if u look at odr ppl, they r very much into needs n wants of materialistic things....another thing, they believe in equality of humans....no untouchables, all equal....

if u keep in mind the above few aspects of intellectuals....u will realise y these ppl r the ones who stood for "land to untouchables" , "equitable distribution of money amongst all citizens", etc etc...tht is all the communist n socialist ideals...

not all intellectuals r like tht...also the situation plays a big role..in west bengal the situation was worst...poverty, wealth accumulated with few ppl, social disparity, etc etc....in such sitautions ...an intellectual person will sit, think n decide.....

n most turn towards communism....

As per ideals of communism goes...i think it was needed once...i believe things arise out of situations...n whn situations change, the older ideals shud change....

These ideals over a period of time become the genetic code of the system..we simply follow it without even asking the logic behind the genetic code....

whn situations change, these ideals n success formulas no longer work...hence the genetic code shud change...if one fails to change the genetic code, then no matter however mighty (like the dinosaurs)will die....

i strongly feel tht ideals of communism were needed in the society n world..but tht was decades ago....now with chnged situations....they must change...if they change, like china has done it...they will be successful..

its SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST....

n communist ideals r no longer the fittest..there r other models n systems which r much much better in the current situation..

Hi people!

Well, I don't agree with Sarvesh. I would ask him to name at least 5 people, who 'publicly' agreed to/subscribed to the tenants of communism. On the other hand, several brilliant minds of the century-Albert Einstein, Richard Feynman, S.Radhkrishnan (2nd President of
Republic of India) and the likes, never embraced communism. If you look at it, Communism is a good political ideology- but solely on paper. The promise of having a worker's paradise which will keep the interest of the farmer and labor classes at the forefront and work towards the welfare of its citizens, imbibing 'equality of all' of tenant, is indeed a heartening one. But it has got its own limitations:

1. Communism enforces 'equality' and not 'equity'. This is a very serious flaw, the details of which I'll be soon writing in my blog.

2. This generates a mental unrest among the masses which soon culminates into a collective social unrest. This in turn leads to the questioning of the ideas of communism, by the people, which in itself is an anomaly to the communist ideology, which roughly puts the government of the communist state at a level where it can't and shouldn't be questioned.

3. A communist state is governed by a government which consists of humans-who at the end of the day will remain, well, human. There is a very thin line between an autocrat and a communist. Absolute power in the hands of select few, smudges this boundary, and a communist state becomes an autocratic state. Humans by and large-can't handle absolute power. We tend to misuse it.

Having briefly talked about communism and its 'side effects', lets look at what Shahid says:

"West Bengal has taken the worst of Communism and the worst of capitalism in the world"

I agree with it. In my previous comments to Shahid's blog, I have mentioned that the brand of communism being followed in India, isn't what communism (of Marx, Angels and Lenin) was meant to be. It's a total indianized version and a total farce.

But its a good debate to peep into. I'll be substantiating on it further in my blog.

Till then,
Vishwas Shukla
